P U B L I S H E R S ' N O T E 4 • October 2018 • Western Real Estate Business www.REBusinessOnline.com There are a few reminders through- out this issue that we are now 10 years removed from the Lehman Brothers col- lapse, noted as the unofficial start of the Great Recession. The following few years were a period of great trials and tribula- tions for global companies to individuals alike. While not every business and person emerged unscathed, our industry and the professionals in it have gained a knowl- edge and perspective that will hopefully mitigate some of the negative aspects that come with an inevitable downturn. But that was 10 years ago… Today, development is absolutely thriv- ing in nearly every region out West. We know this because we sat down with some of the region's top economic development teams. They were chalked full of so much activity that we couldn't possibly fit all their projects into this already hefty story. Industrial activity is booming in the High Desert, where Moreno Valley recently ap- proved the World Logistics Center, the largest corporate industrial park in Cali- fornia's history, while Apple Valley is set to receive the Big Lots Distribution Center, the largest facility of its kind in the High Desert. Henderson is preparing for the Las Ve- gas Raiders as the city will be home to its $75 million corporate office and training field. Burbank and Bellflower are focused on attracting more visitors with the $60 million renovation of Burbank Town Cen- ter and the development of SteelCraft, an outdoor food court in repurposed ship- ping containers, which will debut in their respective cities soon. Meanwhile, Indio and Peoria are hard at work cementing their identities with bustling downtowns and business-friendly development zones. Just as development has changes, so, too, has marketing. It's not a subject we touch on often, but technology is so preva- lent in all aspects of our industry that we wanted to make sure you were up to date on the latest innovative marketing strate- gies that will usher your business into the digital age. We were pleasantly surprised to see just how busy developers, city officials and con- tractors have been out West, and we think you will be, too. If you have a project you think we should be covering, be sure to tell us about it at wreb@francemediainc.com.
