P U B L I S H E R S ' N O T E 4 • September 2015 • Western Real Estate Business www.REBusinessOnline.com With the retail industry showing some positive momentum since our last meeting at ICSC RECon in Las Vegas, we thought we'd use the last few weeks before the Western Divi- sion Conference to do some local trendspotting. That's just what we did in our "Developing Trends" piece, which features voices throughout Cal- ifornia's retail market. Our experts pointed to an increase in mixed-use development, the qual- ity of tenants and, perhaps most im- portantly for investors, the prices paid for many retail assets throughout the state. There were a few decreases as well, which included the amount of traditional retail product being deliv- ered to market and the square footage requirements of many notable retail- ers. We saw so much activity in the sin- gle tenant net lease (STNL) arena, that we devoted a few pages to this trend alone. Even though California will always receive a fair amount of love and attention on the STNL front, we learned many investors are trying to capitalize on other markets, particu- larly the Mountain states of Colorado, Utah and Idaho. It's hard to talk about California without mentioning its new water conservation ordinance. Reducing water consumption by 25 percent can seem like a tall order, but we're pretty sure you'll feel diferently after read- ing a few tips that will have you meet- ing that goal in no time. The weather's cooling down and the kids are back to school — it's clear- ly time to kick the last quarter of this year into overdrive as we end 2015 with a bang. We intend to do just that.
